A healthy lifestyle involves proper diet, exercise, and emotional well-being. Our lives are often full of activities that are not very healthy for us, but by making healthy lifestyle changes we can improve our quality of life dramatically! Below are ten tips to incorporate into our daily lifestyle that will set us on the trajectory for healthy living:

1. Drink more water. Many of us drink coffee, tea, soda, or alcoholic beverages on a regular basis. While plain coffee or tea is a very low calorie beverage, many of us add milk, sugar, or flavorings to make it taste better. Switch your beverages to water, and you will improve your diet immediately.

2. Park further away from the door and take the stairs. Incorporating exercise into your daily life is critical for improving. Look at all aspects of your life and see where you can get exercise instead of using automation.

3. Do not eat while watching TV or reading. You eat more when you are distracted. Focus on your food and enjoy it, and stop eating once you cannot taste it anymore. You will greatly reduce your caloric intake by that small change in dietary habit.

4. Practice meditation or relaxation. We lead hectic lives and need time alone to refresh and rejuvenate our minds. Whether it is in the morning or evening, take at least five minutes for to improve your emotional well-being by communing with your higher power or promoting peace and inner tranquility.

5. Keep healthy snacks around. Be prepared for the munchies with a bag of carrot sticks, an apple, or a yogurt. Eat as soon as you feel hungry, because denying your body food will cause you to crave refined sugar and drive you straight to the vending machine. Save your healthy diet by being prepared!

6. Walk during your lunch break. Pack your lunch to work and eat it throughout the day to leave your lunch break free. Taking the walk will help clear your mind and refresh your body, and eating your lunch throughout the day helps keep your metabolism up as your body gets small quantities of food over time.

7. Keep a food diary. By writing down what you eat, you will see how your emotions and habits affect what you consume. With knowledge comes power, and you can make changes in your behavior to improve your diet.

8. Practice the art of forgiving. Every day of our lives are filled with offenses against us, from minor to major. You can choose to carry your anger with you, but it will only cause you stress and unhealthy side-effects. Forgiving offenses done against you will provide you emotional freedom and well-being.

9. Play with children. Do healthy activities such as playing catch, going for a bike ride, or raking leaves and flopping in them. The children’s emotional well-being will flourish under the attention, and you will burn calories just trying to keep up with them.

10. Go for a walk after dinner with your family. Just a half an hour of walking will provide excellent exercise, and the forced time together away from the TV will bond your family together emotionally as you communicate.

Remember that sudden changes to your lifestyle are rarely continued for more than a few days. As you decide to make healthy lifestyle changes, pick which tips fit the most easily into your current lifestyle, and slowly incorporate others as the first become second nature.
